Girls of TV: Longoria vs. Chalke

Although I was not surprised by the outcome, I was surprised how easily Fischer was able to blow past Christensen.

Voting continues. Make sure to pick your favorite and tell others to stop by and vote. Enjoy!

(3) Eva Longoria

Longoria honed her acting skills on the set of a few soap operas, most notably The Young and the Restless. She now resides on Sunday's late night soap opera, Desperate Housewives as former model turned housewife, Gabrielle Solis.

(6) Sarah Chalke

Chalke was considered the Second Becky on Roseanne until she finally made a name for herself as Dr. Elliot Reid on my all-time favorite television show, Scrubs. She also happens to be the lone exception to my rule that I mentioned. This past year she played Kate Swanson on Mad Love, but the show was canceled after this bracket was made.

Who? What? Where? #29

It had been awhile, but Fletch managed to hold off Hatter to remain in
third place as he correctly identified Dave Matthews as James in You Don't Mess With the Zohan.

With that he not only holds off Hatter, but moves a little closer to second place.

The fun continues - good luck to all this week!

The concept is simple: each week I will place a photograph of a character within a film. It is up to you (the participant in the game) to tell me the following:

1) The name of the actor (or what the actor goes by in his acting profession).

2) The name of the character in the movie.

3) And, the name of the movie.

Each correct answer gets you a point - so if you get all three correct on a given week, you can get three points. I will keep a running chart each and every week. As of now, this will be played for bragging rights only - but we shall see what the future holds.

So here is week #29:

Standings:
Jess - 26 points
Matt - 20 points
Fletch - 16 points
Mad Hatter - 11 points
Nick - 6 points
Mrs. Kano - 5 points

Girls of TV: Christensen vs. Fischer

Well, I thought I may have to use my power of authority and make a decision as up until last night Jones and Rossum were stuck in a tie.

Thankfully, that did not need to happen as Rossum got a late vote sometime between last night and now, so she slides through to the next round.

The matchups keep coming - remember to vote each and every day. Thanks to those who have.

(3) Erika Christensen

I hadn't heard of Christensen until Swimfan, which I still have never seen - but apparently she gave a pretty good performance, at least good enough for me to hear about her. She is now starring in NBC's Parenthood as Julia Braverman-Graham.

(6) Jenna Fischer

I first discovered Fischer in her most successful role, as Pam Beesly on NBC's The Office. She has since also been seen in a handful of movies, but she will be known mostly as the secretary turned office manager of Scranton's Dunder Mifflin.

Girls of TV: Rossum vs. Jones

Today marks the start of the 'official' bracket as yesterday wrapped up the 'play-in' rounds.

Fringe's Anna Torv slipped through by a single vote to make it into the 'official' bracket.

So, this is essentially a new beginning - let's get voting. Votes need to be hitting double-digits, again. Not happy with the results, get more people involved. Spread the word.

Enjoy!

(3) Emmy Rossum

First saw Rossum starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in 2004's Day After Tomorrow. She now is starring in Showtime's Shameless as Fiona Gallagher, the daughter of William H. Macy's character.

(6) January Jones

I honestly had never heard of January Jones before she was added to the American Wedding cast and was pined over by Stiffler and Finch. Then I didn't see her in too many things since then, but she now stars as Betty Draper in AMC's hit television series Mad Men. Haven't seen any of it yet, but it's on my list of shows to watch in the future.

Tuesday's With Movies: 6/28/11

Beastly: I have to admit, I usually enjoy the modern-day telling of fairy tales. I actually really liked Sydney White (a take on Snow White), so I am somewhat interested in seeing what they have done with Beauty & the Beast. It frightens me that this film was pushed back and held a few times, but I guess we shall see.

Sucker Punch: I have only seen Watchmen once - and it was in the theater - but I don't have the same hatred for it as everyone else seems to have. Of course, I have never read the series, so that may have something to do with it. But, this is from the same visionary that created the Watchmen movie - with more girls - so I am pretty interested in checking it out.

Season of the Witch: When I saw this I really had no thought of ever seeing it. Nothing about it screams to me, but I share a Netflix with my sister and her husband and she wanted to see it. So, I may check it out once it does come in. Maybe.

Girls of TV: Bowen vs. Torv

As I write this, I feel Dylan has gone mad with anger. Yet another surprise vote in my opinion. As said in the comments, not sure if people are voting for the prettiest lady or their favorite show of the bunch. But, that is up to them really - and with the votes another person moves on.

Michele of Glee fame knocked off curvacious Hendricks and moves into the next round.

New matchup begins now - enjoy!

(8) Julie Bowen

Remember Julie Bowen? She was Adam Sandler's lady friend in the hit movie Happy Gilmore. Well, since then she has had a starring role in Ed and Boston Legal and smaller roles in Lost and Weeds. She is now one of the stars on Modern Family, playing Clair Dunphy.

(9) Anna Torv

Torv doesn't really have much of an acting background, and during the first season of Fringe I felt she may have been the worst part of the show. But, now three seasons in she has really become a great actress on a great show, as the lead character Olivia Dunham. And, hailing from Australia, her American accent is pretty darn good.

Girls of TV: Michele vs. Hendricks

Well, at the time that I write this Busy Phillips has knocked off Sofia Vergara in yet another surprise vote.

If anything does happen to change as this gets posted, I will change this posting.

Anyway, voting continues.

(8) Lea Michele

I am not too familiar with Michele, but she is currently one of the stars on FOX's Glee. She plays Rachel Berry, the daughter of an interracial, gay couple, and one of the main singers in the glee club.

(9) Christina Hendricks

Hendricks stars as Joan Harris on AMC's hit series, Mad Men. Her character is one of the employees at the advertising agency Sterling Cooper. Other than her role on the series, Hendricks is best known for her vivacious curves - a throwback to Marilyn Monroe.

Theater Review: Cars 2

There are a ton of naysayers out there who say that the original Cars film is not worthy of the Pixar name. They say it is the worst of the Pixar films - which technically still isn't a bad thing.

I, on the other hand, have watched Cars about 20 times thanks to my 4-year old son. I have to admit, after the first viewing I was probably having the same thoughts as many of you, but on further views I have really learned to love Pixar's red-headed stepchild.

So, when Cars 2 was announced I was very eager to take my family to see the film. And, I wasn't disappointed.

The gang's all back, led by Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Tow Mater (Larry the Cable Guy). The lone missing character is Doc Hudson, who appears to have landed in that junk yard in the sky - which is a nice ode to Paul Newman, who passed away between the movies. Fillmore, however, does return - with a new voice after the death of George Carlin.

Anyway, the plot goes a little something like this. Sir Miles Axelrod (Eddie Izzard) has created a new green fuel Allinol, and plans to show just how great it is with a three races - Japan, Italy and England. Joining the races is Italy's hot racecar, Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro), who manages to rope McQueen into joining the race.

McQueen brings along Mater, Fillmore, Sarge (Paul Dooley), Luigi (Tony Shalhoub) and Guido (Guido Quaroni) as his pit crew. Mater is a fish out of water - and embarrasses McQueen on a number of occasions - and accidentally gets mistaken for an American spy and joins Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) and Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) as they attempt to find a criminal mastermind.

The film feels like two separate stories being told at the same time, Mater's spy game and McQueen's race. However, both come together in a good way.

I enjoyed the action sequences in the film and it was amazing to look at. The racing scenes were beautifully created - seeing the three different race courses in the different countries.

Although a little Mater goes a long way, I didn't get too Matered out, like I thought I would. This was mostly his story - McQueen's story was told in the first film. And, it was enjoyable.

Again, it will be attacked - I know it will be. No, it is not the best Pixar film - but I don't feel anything can touch Toy Story. But, it is not a road bump either - it has a great, touching story about the meaning of friendship. And, enough action to appease the spy junkies.

Attack it if you must - but my son and I will watch it another 30 times, and enjoy it more with each watch.

Grade:

Girls of TV: Phillips vs. Vergara

Wow, another surprise vote. I thought I was the only one who thought Kemper was cute. But, good to see I am not.

Kemper moved on to the next round as she knocked out the lady with the smallest last name in the bracket, Q.

Slowly finishing up the 'play-in' rounds, but a lot of lovely ladies should be showing their faces soon.

Keep up with the voting, and spread the word.

(8) Busy Phillips

Phillips is most notably known for starring in Freaks and Geeks and Dawson's Creek, but since the end of the Creek, she has been bouncing around the tube. She now stars as one of Jules' best friends, Laurie Keller, on ABC's Cougar Town.

(9) Sofia Vergara

I had never really heard of Vergara until she was a character in the short-lived television show Knights of Prosperity. Since then she has become a huge fan favorite as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, the new wife of Ed O'Neil's Jay, on Modern Family.

Girls of TV: Q vs. Kemper

I am writing this a bit early today, but I don't expect much to change. I had a feeling Paquin would be able to blow out Coupe.

That was really the first major blow out of the bracket challenge, but I was also surprised Coupe get a few votes. Not sure if those were really vote for her - or a vote against Paquin.

Anyway, the voting continues - Have Fun!

And don't forget to check in over the weekend as well, the bracket won't be taking the weekend off.

(7) Maggie Q

Maggie Q has been in quite a few films, and from what I remember mostly plays the bad guys (this could be wrong). Anyway, she has taken over the role as the titular character in Nikita, which I guess is doing pretty well on the CW.

(9) Ellie Kemper

Kemper is very new to acting, as her first credited appearance on imdb is from 2007. But, she has become an integral part of The Office, as Kelly Erin Hannon. She has taken over the secretary position from Pam, and has formed a bit of a love triangle with Andy and Gabe.

Girls of TV: Paquin vs. Coupe

In more of a runaway vote, Rashida Jones out duels Joy Bryant. Which was understandable, seeing as how Parks and Recreation is far more popular than Parenthood.

Anyway, Jones moves on to take on the No. 2 seed in her bracket. Look for that soon.

Now, the final 7-10 matchup. Only a few more 'play-in' matchups remain.

Happy Voting!

(7) Anna Paquin

Paquin made the seemless change from big screen blockbusters (X-Men) to the small screen in HBO's hit series True Blood. Paquin plays the lead character of Sookie Stackhouse ,a friend of the vampires who can hear thoughts.

(10) Eliza Coupe

I was first introduced to Coupe in the final season of Scrubs as intern Denise Mahoney. She now stars as Jane Williams in the new comedy on ABC, Happy Endings. This was one of the mid-season replacement shows that actually seemed to work as it was renewed for next season.

Who? What? Where? #28

OK, well a lot has happened in the past two postings. Let's see.

Matt was able to correctly identify Sarah Jessica Parker as Carolyn McAdams in Flight of the Navigator. Good to see Matt is still alive.

Second, Mad Hatter came through in identifying Ted Danson in a very small role as Captain Fred Hamill in Saving Private Ryan.

Well, congrats to both Matt and Hatter in their correct guesses - and continuing to move up the standings.

Good luck to all of you this week.

So here is week #28:

Standings:
Jess - 26 points
Matt - 20 points
Fletch - 13 points
Mad Hatter - 11 points
Nick - 6 points
Mrs. Kano - 5 points

Girls of TV: Bryant vs. Jones

Well, it's official. Natalie Zea has pulled a Hannigan and came all the way back to defeat Mary Louise Parker in the second matchup of the Girls on TV bracket.

With the win, Zea moves on to take on the No. 2 seed on her side of the bracket.

We did, however, only receive eight votes for this matchup (down from 13 for the first). Let's get those votes coming. Remember, a new matchup each and every day until a champion is crowned. So, come back every day.

Matchup No. 3:

(7) Joy Bryant

Bryant hasn't been in too much in her young career, but she certainly shines in the underrated Parenthood as Jasmine Trussell. Jasmine is the on-again, off-again fiancee of Dax Shepard's Crosby, and the mother of the son he never knew he had.

(10) Rashida Jones

If you remember Jones played Karen Filippeli on The Office, which turned into a starring role on Parks and Recreation as Anne Perkins. Perkins is the best friend of Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope, and a local nurse at the hospital.

Girls of TV: Zea vs. Parker

Wow, I hope all of the matchups for this bracket tournament are as close and fun as this first one. Alyson Hannigan jumped out to a huge lead at the start and I thought she was going to run away with it. However, Connie Britton battled back and even took the lead late last night.

But, Ms. Hannigan powered back and took the victory by the slimmest of margins. So, she moves on to the next round to take on our 2nd seed. Hope this matchup is just as fun - happy voting!

(7) Natalie Zea

I have not jumped on the bandwagon yet to this show, even though I know I will love it. But, I missed season one and have not yet caught up yet. Anyway, Zea stars as Winona Hawkins in FX's hit series Justified.

(10) Mary Louise Parker

I came to the party a little late on Weeds, but I have really enjoyed Parker as pot-selling, suburban mother, Nancy Botwin. I enjoyed the first few seasons the most, but it is still a pretty great show in its later seasons.
