Tuesday's With Movies: 3/20/12

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: Never read the books, and I have no interest in reading the books, but of course I will see the movie. I was looking forward to seeing it, but now I have even more of a reason to watch it as Oscar has selected it as part of my new 50 movies.

The Muppets: First off, I have already seen this. It was one of the few movies I actually got to head to the theater to see (read the review: here). But, of course I will be seeing it again - in fact I am sure I will own in shortly. I love the Muppets, and they are back to doing what they do best in this feature. I hope they continue on this new (old) path.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: As of this very moment I do not plan on checking this out. Nothing has really jumped out at me to run and see it, and it's odd because I enjoy Gary Oldman as an actor. But, that doesn't mean I won't check it out in the future - especially if I am convinced I should.

Hop: Wow! I realize that Easter is just around the corner and everything, but this movie came out in the theater last Easter. Sure, it makes sense to profit on the holiday that the film is about, but it just seems odd nowadays to see a movie come out on DVD almost a year after its release. Of course I will check it out. My son is sure to love it.

Carnage: Okay, I was first very much interested in this when I heard about it and who was in the film. But, after watching the trailer I was turned off. Doesn't look like what I was hoping for. Too bad because it does have a great cast.

The Sitter: I will eventually check this one out. It looks even more foul-mouthed than I care to be seeing, and I can take a lot. But, I am sure there are a few decent jokes in the film. So, count me in.

Wedge Antilles vs. Plo Koon

(8) Wedge Antilles

Wedge appeared in the original trilogy, all three films. Wedge is present in both attacks on the Death Star. In the first film he is part of the attack where Luke Skywalker is able to connect on his shot to blow up the Death Star. In the third film, he is part of that attack with Lando Calrissian. In the second film, Wedge is part of the alliance located on Hoth and helps take down AT-AT's as they attack the rebel base.

(9) Plo Koon

Plo Koon is a member of the Jedi High Council in all three of the prequel films. His back story is fleshed out a lot more in the animated television show, The Clone Wars, and he is given a lot more to do. He was, however, present during the Jedi attack on Geonosis and was killed during the execution of Code 66 by his clone troopers.

Star Wars Bracket

I posted this on the Facebook page, but I just want to let everyone know I will be doing a Star Wars Bracket in honor of both March Madness and the release of Star Wars 3D (yeah I know that was last month, but still).

I currently have 32 good guys and 32 bad guys ready roll out. So, make sure to come back each and every day to vote.

We will be starting with the good guys and narrowing them down to 16 - then with the bad guys.

At the end will have the best bad guy vs. the best good guy - but only one can be the best.

That is up to you. Again, come back and vote. And please, spread the word.

Tuesday's With Movies: 3/13/12

Usually when I do this I struggle to find even four mainstream movies being released on DVD. And out of those I would be lucky to be interested in even half of them. This week, however, there is a huge list of new DVDs coming out today - and I have to say I have at least some interest in all of them.

The Descendants: Usually this is the type of film I may pass up. Those nominated for Oscars are always so stuffy. But, this one looks to be pretty interesting. Plus it has that added bonus of being partly written by the Dean of Greendale!

The Adventures of Tintin: Don't really know the source material of this, and at first I really no interest in seeing this. But, after some time I figured I would at least give it a shot. It does come from Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson so it has to be somewhat decent, right?

My Week with Marilyn: This may be the film coming out today that I have the least amount of interest in seeing, but I will still check it out.

Happy Feet Two: I wasn't a huge fan of the first film, but this one looks sort of cute. This being on the interest list has more to do with my son than it does with me. But, I will check it out with him. Probably.

Melancholia: I was up in the air about this one. From everything I have heard I am either going to love it or I am going to hate it. At least that seems to be what I am getting. But, I will definitely be checking it out because Jess gave it to me as part of her 10 films in my new upcoming 50 list.

The Three Musketeers: This was just added to my list. I rewatched the trailer and I have to say it looked somewhat interesting. I doubt it will be as cool or funny as the Sheen/Sutherland/Platt film, but I want to check it out.

Young Adult: Never really heard much about this one, but it has a stellar cast and looks to have a pretty good story behind it. Will be checking it out at some point.

Tuesday's With Movies: 3/6/12

Immortals: When I first saw this trailer I felt it was another try to duplicate the success of 300. I really had no interest in seeing it, and I really don't have much interest now, but it may have grown a bit with many people claiming it to be a pretty decent film.

Footloose: There are just some films that I cannot believe ever get remade. Why not find some films out there that had a good premise but failed for some reason or another and try to fix them? Anyway, when this was first announced I was out - but apparently it is good, so I will check it out. I am sure Mrs. Kano wants to see it.

Jack and Jill: Horrible film and I know it will be. But, it still intrigues me. I need to know how bad it is.

Like Crazy: Never heard of it, but it stars the girl from Winter's Bone and Chekov from the new Star Trek. Apparently about a British girl who falls for a US boy - but is whisked away when she stays too long and her visa runs out. As of now, not really looking to check it out.
