(1) Han Solo vs. (16) Aunt Beru

YES!

Glad to see that it may have been the weekend that has kept some of the voters away. Please remember that the bracket continues through the weekend. Stop by and vote.

That being said, Obi-Wan Kenobi rolls by Uncle Owen and into the second round. Today is the final matchup of the first round for the Light Side. Tomorrow starts the Dark Side and, like I said before, to speed up the round I will be posting two per day (at the same time) so please make sure to scroll down and vote for both. Thanks.

(1) Han Solo

Han Solo first appears in A New Hope when Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are looking for a starship and a pilot to get them off of Tatooine and to Princess Leia on Alderaan. Solo is wanted by Jabba the Hutt because he owes him a ton of money. He agrees to take the two for a large price to help pay off his debt. Little did he know that he would be getting himself into the huge battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire.

(16) Aunt Beru

Aunt Beru was married to Uncle Owen who lives on Tatooine and manages a moisture farm. Her and her husband raise Luke Skywalker from a baby and do their best to keep him from finding out who is father is. She is a bit more understanding to the growing Skywalker than her husband is, as most of his friends have already joined the Academy while he has been held back to help them on the farm.

Tuesday's With Movies: 4/3/12

War Horse: I am sorry, I am sure this is a good movie - I mean it was up for an Oscar and everything. But, it's about a horse. I just cannot believe that it is that amazing. I am sure this may be one for the future, but I have no interest now.

We Bought a Zoo: This one actually looks pretty interesting to me. When it first came out I didn't think I would be, but as it has gone on it has grown on me. Definitely going to check it out.

Theater Review: This Means War

I have to admit I would probably have never gone to the theater to see this movie. It absolutely screamed watch it at home on DVD. I rarely have the time to rush out to the movies, so I am rather picky at what films I actually get to go out and see.

Anyway, my parents actually wanted to see This Means War and took me with them. So, technically I didn't pay money to see it. But, it was a decent enough film anyway.

FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are CIA agents that are tracking a man named Heinrich (Til Schweiger) and preventing him from purchasing a weapon of mass destruction. On their trip to Hong Kong, they manage to stop Heinrich, but his brother is killed during the shootout and Heinrich manages to escape.

Fearing for their safety, Collins (Angela Bassett), their boss, puts them on desk duty.

During this down time, Tuck, who is divorced and has a son, has become rather lonely. Despite being best friends with FDR, he usually finds himself on the sidelines when FDR is out picking up women. So, he decides to make an online dating profile.

Meanwhile, Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) is a work-o-holic, who recently finds out her ex-boyfriend is now engaged. Her sister, Trish (Chelsea Handler) creates an online dating profile for her as well. And who do you think she is paired up with?

Being a true friend, FDR decides to wait close by during the date in case Tuck needs to bail, but the two actually hit it off rather well. After the date, Lauren heads to the video store which just so happens to be the same place FDR is hiding out. And, he also convinces her to go on a date with him.

So, the film then is about the two best friends trying to convince a girl to be with them - and using the CIA to track the other, and also stop the other from 'getting it on' with her. That, and she of course has no idea the two even know each other.

Add in the fact that Heinrich is also trying to track the two down, and there is a lot happening. But, the movie actually pulls it off well - you don't feel too overwhelmed and drowning in so any plot lines.

I never heard of Pine until Star Trek, but I am really starting to enjoy his work. Same really goes for Hardy as well, where Inception was my first time seeing him. Witherspoon has been around for awhile, and during the film I just got this thought that she should be so much older than the two guys - but she is actually pretty close to their age. I guess it's just because she has been in the spotlight much longer. Either way, she looked pretty good in this film.

Nothing too ground breaking here, but I came away pleasantly surprised. Of course, it is pretty predictable, but again almost all romantic comedies (this one with a hint of action) are. But, I walked away feeling entertained which is all I can hope for.

Grade:

(1) Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. (16) Uncle Owen

Luke moves into the next round, rolling past Lobot.

Nine votes on Sunday, hoping the reason for such low votes was the weekend. Look forward to everyone returning to vote this week.

Light Side Round One finishes Tuesday. Starting Wednesday the Dark Side will be released and I will be posting two per day. So, remember to vote for both.

(1) Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi, and later known as Ben Kenobi, is a Jedi who is featured in all six films. He is first introduced as a padawan under the watchful eye of Qui-Gon Jinn. Once Jinn is killed, Kenobi becomes a Master to Anakin Skywalker. The two fight against the likes of General Grievous and Count Dooku before Anakin is pulled to the Dark Side, setting up a duel between Kenobi and Skywalker, which puts Skywalker in his Darth Vader suit. In his later years he watches over Luke Skywalker, Anakin's son, until he is ready to take on the Empire.

(16) Uncle Owen

Uncle Owen is first introduced in Attack of the Clones as he is the new stepson of Shmi Skywalker, and therefore the stepbrother of Anakin Skywalker. After the death of Padme, Owen and his girlfriend, Beru, take on the task of raising Anakin's son, Luke - with Obi-Wan Kenobi keeping a watchful eye. Owen, knowing what Anakin became, did his best to keep Luke out of the fight, but in the end could not hold Luke back from fulfilling his destiny.

(2) Luke Skywalker vs. (15) Lobot

Slight rise in votes yesterday, but not by much. Hopefully it's just due to it being the weekend.

Anyway, Master Yoda rolls through into the second round with a shutout against Chancellor Valorum.

Luke Skywalker makes his first appearance, but will it be his last? Enjoy!

(2) Luke Skywalker

The original film, though most just call Star Wars, is actually called A New Hope which is an appropriately titled film as we are introduced to Luke Skywalker. Luke is the offspring, as we find out in Empire, of Anakin Skywalker, now Darth Vader. Luke is powerful in the Force, but needs to training from Yoda (and the ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi) to learn how to use it and lead the rebels over the Empire.

(15) Lobot

Lobot is the aide to Lando Calrissian on Cloud City. His brain is wired into the city's main computer and allowed him to communicate with the computer. On Lando's command he turns on the Empire and helps rescue Chewbacca and Leia from the Stormtroopers.
